Small Group Studies

Wednesday Night Huddles

Beginning September 6th and every Wednesday at 6pm, John and Christine Zimmerman will facilitate a unique gathering called the “Wednesday Night Huddle.” Huddles are informal gatherings designed to explore various topics related to the mission of Kane First with our surrounding area. Each Huddle will be unique with documentaries, special speakers, presentations, and activities. Watch the announcements for detailed descriptions of the Huddles as they unfold. You can participate in person at the church in the Junior Center or online through ZOOM. The link for ZOOM is put out on Wednesday afternoons on our messenger groups and on our Facebook page. Everyone is welcome to join. Come join the discussion.

Sunday Night Study

Beginning September 13th and every Sunday at 7 pm, John and Christine Zimmerman will lead the “Sunday Night Study.” The Study will be a time of growth and discipleship centered on the teachings and experience of the Zimmerman’s. They will be held in-person at the church (with proper social distancing guidelines) and simultaneously streamed through Zoom.

The first focus will be based on the book, “When Helping Hurts: How to Alleviate Poverty Without Hurting the Poor…and Yourself” by Corbett and Fikkert. It is not necessary to have a copy of the book to participate in the study, but it is recommended. Books can be purchased for $10.00 and are available at the church office, at the study itself, or can be mailed to you.

Poverty is much more than simply a lack of material resources, and it takes much more than donations and handouts to solve it. When Helping Hurts shows how some alleviation efforts, failing to consider the complexities of poverty, have actually (and unintentionally) done more harm than good.

But we will also look ahead. We will learn how to see the dignity in everyone, to empower the materially poor, and to know that we are all uniquely needy—and that God in the gospel is reconciling all things to himself.
